Nearly Five Decades in Bartlesville Changes the Way You See a City.
As a long-time Bartlesville resident, I know how blessed our city is, from our incredible volunteers who unselfishly serve in so many ways, both known and unknown, to our large and small employers that contribute so much to our town’s economic prosperity and well-being.
As the owner of Dink’s BBQ for over 40 years and Sterling’s Grille for over 30 years, I understand what it takes to run and grow a business and help create jobs. I love what I do and owe my success to my wife Kacy of 48 years and my seriously dedicated staff, many of whom have been with me for over 20 years. They are amazing as are the many thousands of customers that have supported our businesses over the years.
Our businesses have helped us raise two sons and put them both through college.
They both bring us great pride. Austin graduated from OU and lives and works in Tulsa for the Grand River Dam Authority and Landon, graduated for OSU, he an owner in Dink's Pit BBQ. We have two wonderful daughters and four fantastic grandchildren, two horses and two labs "Cam" and "Hank". They’re another story for another day.
Having served in the 90’s as Vice Mayor alongside Mayor Harvey Little, and more recently with Dale Copeland as our previous Mayor, I owe them both a great deal of credit and respect for how I approach my duties as the current Mayor and Ward 3 representative.
They were solid Christian men and a great example to have work with. I have continually served on the Bartlesville Development Authority), and a longtime youth baseball coach and parks volunteer/advocate. While I’m still learning, I have a solid understanding of the relationships, the cultural and financial integrity it takes to keep this city running, how the city operates and the importance of listening to, understanding and meeting the needs of our citizens.
Our successful Bond issues from 2018, 2020 and our recent highly successful 2025 bond issue, we have allocated over $17 million dollars to our parks, pathfinder and several new quality of life projects along with countless essential infrastructure projects. Certainly, Unity Square at Tower Center, our new softball and baseball complex at Price Fields and our skate park are highlights of those bond issues. They have added to Bartlesville's many other great attributes to help grow and make Bartlesville a great attraction and a desirable place to live.
If re-elected, I look forward to continuing to work for the residents of Ward 3 and for the entire community.
The Guy Behind the Title
Long before "Mayor" appeared in front of my name, I was simply Jim.
Kacy and I have been married for more than four decades. We raised two sons, Austin and Landon, and our family has grown to include two wonderful daughters-in-law and four grandchildren.
Then there are Amos, our pound dog, and Gus, our yellow Lab who seems to live by a permanent "what have you done for me lately?" philosophy.
They're part of the story too.
Because when the Council meeting ends and the title goes away, Bartlesville is still home.
It's where our boys grew up. It's where our businesses grew. It's where longtime customers became friends and where our family has built a life.
Why I Want to Keep Serving
I've watched Bartlesville change considerably over the years.
Some of our challenges have changed with it. Others are remarkably familiar.
We still need businesses to invest here and jobs that allow people to build good lives. We need streets and infrastructure we can depend on, strong public safety, responsible management of taxpayer dollars and a community that gives young families a reason to choose Bartlesville.
And there are opportunities ahead of us that we probably haven't imagined yet.
I'm not running because I believe I have all the answers. I don't.
I'm running because nearly five decades in Bartlesville have taught me the value of listening, asking the right questions, bringing good people together and finding workable solutions.
Bartlesville has given my family and me a great deal over the years. Serving this community is one way I can give something back.
There is more to do, and I'd be honored to keep doing my part.
